The APPG for Entrepreneurship’s inquiry will look at how the government can equip young people with the skills to start, run, and grow a business, or have the skills to work in an entrepreneurial company.

Please don’t feel obliged to answer all the questions. We would prefer that you focus on one or two questions where you feel you can add the most value, rather than answer them all without detail/evidence. However, don’t let this deter you from answering them all if you want.

This project is being kindly supported by finnCap. As a firm of entrepreneurs, they are proud to partner education programmes which focus on developing youth entrepreneurship and enhancing social mobility.

Please send all submissions as PDF files to sam@tenentrepreneurs.org

The Call for Evidence will close on Friday 15th April.

Background information

  • Briefly describe your background and what you do. If you work for an organisation, how large is it and in what part of the sector is it active?

Current Policies

  • What current policies and guidance are in place to specifically support Entrepreneurship Education at schools? Are they working?

  • Does the Government offer enough clarity about what it wants schools to achieve on this front? Is it clear which Ministers’ brief this area falls under? How could clear ownership of this issue be improved?

  • To what extent does the Government offer the right incentives for schools to deliver Entrepreneurship Education? Is there adequate funding in place? Is there adequate training to deliver these programmes?

Policy in Practice

  • Are there examples of schools and education organisations doing a particularly good job of delivering Entrepreneurship Education? What role has Government policy played in this?

  • Is there evidence that Entrepreneurship Education feeds into enhancing employability and/or academic attainment? How are they valued and their impact evidenced? What do you think could be changed or improved?

  • Which countries have the best policies in place to support schools through Entrepreneurship Education, and what are those policies? What is the evidence that these policies have positive outcomes? Which lessons are most applicable to the UK?

Focus

  • What should be the priority of Entrepreneurship Education?

  • To what extent should the Government encourage schools and teachers to support Entrepreneurship Education?

  • How can the Government best ensure that quality Entrepreneurship Education is scalable and replicable across the country? How, when, and by whom should teachers be trained in this area so that they understand business and value creation?

  • How should Entrepreneurship Education be integrated into the already packed school curriculum? How could such education best align with other extracurricular activities while still remaining engaging for students?

  • What impacts do ethnicity, gender, and social background have on students engaging with Entrepreneurship Education? How should we address imbalances and social inequalities? Are there specific cohorts where focus will lead to better outcomes? What outcomes?

  • How should the Government ensure that students have appropriate and relatable role models in entrepreneurship? What is the best way to improve exposure to entrepreneurship and inspiration among school-age children?

  • What role should be played by parents and family in encouraging enterprise and entrepreneurship among school-aged children?

  • Over the years, there have been a lot of research/recommendations around Entrepreneurship Education. What are the key recommendations – either from within Government or externally – that the Government has yet to implement? Which would like to see implemented and which would you prefer remained unimplemented?

Government Policy

  • Is there any further evidence that we should be aware of?
